TI Review

Solid players and good RP. Crafting is complicated but not too complicated. TI has a vibrant IC economy. OOC meetings with Staff once a week give players an open forum to air ideas. Staff are good people. If I had one complaint it would be that there are times the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.

Here is a situation I ran into: I played a playwright who submitted a couple IC plays that were old non-copyrighted one acts written sometime in real life history. Before I submitted them as IC I talked to a staff member to make sure that was kosher. I even linked them to the website the plays were on. I was told that as long as it isn't copyrighted text TI has no problem, however it needs to be edited so it fits game theme. They mentioned a book at the IC library with RL nursery rhymes converted for TI theme and I acknowledged I'd seen it. The plays were worked over, revised for TI theme and submitted, approved, and considered ICly the character's work. A solid nine to ten real months later another player is working on some complex plot and fabricates a random theft committed by my playwright. Playwright denies the theft occurred and the RP starts getting pretty good. A couple days later the same player reports OOCly to Staff that the two plays my character ICly wrote are actually real plays that were edited for TI theme, which is a thing Staff should have already been aware of, as I had talked to staff before submitting the plays. I'm not privy to what goes on behind the scenes, this is conjecture, but it seemed to me that it just wasn't documented. Staff left me an OOC note stating this isn't allowed and all copies of the plays were being removed from the game. Meanwhile, the players investigating the theft mentioned above are told that they can ICly assume my playwright forged all his plays and stole them from other IC authors. For me, that's the end of the character concept. It undoes every modicum of roleplay I've had to suddenly be a legit IC fraud. I'm left with a lot of frustration. It's not Staff being unfair, it's Staff not communicating. Logging every interaction I have with Staff and then keeping the logs indefinitely isn't something I feel somebody should have to do. The last time I popped on the game a Staff member had the title "Logs or it didn't happen" on the who list. It's egotistical to assume it was directed at me and I agree with the premise, but it's frustrating none the less.

While I won't be back for awhile, I will go back. TI is a last bastion of good RP and I don't mean to paint the Staff with a broad stroke of "bad". They are not bad. If these reviews are read I would just suggest some from the top policy to keep better records of staff to player interactions. Especially in situations where a player stands to have IC repercussions for an OOC permission granted then recanted.
