I don't usually write reviews, but I've been playing MUDs since 1999 and wanted to show some support for this one.
I was around on day one of Trenton's original DBZFE MUD back in 2001 or so. My memory is a little hazy these days. I'm getting old, maybe Alzheimer's or something. When that MUD closed down, it left a massive void in the Dragon Ball Z MUD scene. Jcet's Reality MUD came and went, but nothing ever really filled that gap.
Then around 2014, ThunderZ, with the blessing of the original creator of DBZFE, painstakingly recreated the game from scratch. I remember discovering it early on and being absolutely over the moon. He even shared his screen with me while he was coding the game. I watched him hand draw Snake Way, convert it into ASCII, and bring it to life. It was a surreal experience.
Over the years I've drifted away from the game, but I always find myself coming back. It's almost become a Christmas tradition at this point. Along the way, I watched the game evolve from the original BYOND codebase to C#, and now it's been completely converted to Rust. It runs faster than ever.
The biggest game changer, though, is the incredible web client ThunderZ has built. Over the past few weeks he's been making improvements almost daily, and at this point I'm completely spoiled. I genuinely think this client should set the standard for MUDs going forward. I couldn't imagine going back to a traditional telnet client like Mudlet or MUSHclient after using this.
The map renders live, so you can actually see players moving around you, powering up, firing blasts, and interacting with the world in real time. It's an awesome experience and gives the game a level of immersion I've never seen in another MUD.
ThunderZ is also incredibly receptive to feedback. He's always open to suggestions, and whenever we run into bugs from the Rust conversion, he's quick to fix them.
The only thing this game is missing is YOU.
