About This Game

The Garden — A Philosophical Multiplayer RPG - Early Dev

What if the greatest weapon you possessed was an idea?

The Garden is a text-based multiplayer role-playing game (MUD) where philosophy replaces traditional combat, arguments become battles, and the beliefs you defend shape the person you become.

Enter a mysterious world of scholars, forgotten knowledge, competing ideologies, and hidden agendas. What begins as a quiet journey through a seemingly peaceful garden gradually unfolds into something far more complicated. Beneath its academic traditions lie altered records, unanswered questions, and individuals whose motivations are not always what they seem.

In The Garden, you don't defeat your opponents with swords or spells. You challenge their convictions.

A Different Kind of Combat

The Garden introduces a unique Argument system in place of conventional RPG combat. Challenge an opponent's reasoning, question their assumptions, reframe their perspective, or concede a point to influence the direction of a debate.

Your effectiveness depends on six attributes: Wit, Cunning, Resolve, Insight, Charm, and Luck. Each contributes to your development as a thinker and determines how you approach conflict.

Every argument is an opportunity to gain experience, discover new perspectives, and potentially convert an opponent into an ally.

Your Philosophy, Your Character

Rather than relying on conventional fantasy archetypes, The Garden explores philosophical identities such as the Pragmatist, Individualist, and Skeptic.

Your choices and preferred methods of argument influence your development. Specializations emerge through your actions rather than being determined entirely at character creation.

Study alongside professors, strengthen your attributes, and develop a distinctive intellectual approach.

Influence Is Power

Victory does not necessarily mean destroying an enemy.

Converted opponents can become Assets, generating Intrigue over time. Accumulate enough Intrigue to earn Special Intrigue, a valuable resource that can be exchanged for rare equipment, assignments, experience, and other rewards.

Build a network of influence while uncovering the secrets hidden throughout the world.
