50,000+ character builds, epic loot, endless quests and mobs that fight back. Dying is part of the tutorial.
Each point summarizes observations within the labeled day. All periods use UTC. Averages and ranges use recorded samples only.
Line: sample average. Shading: observed range. Gaps mean missing data, not zero players.
View More StatisticsTwo gods built Thera as a mirror copy of someone else's world. Several epochs and a great many funerals later, the copy has stopped taking notes and started taking lives.
You start with choices, and there are a lot of them. 23 races, 13 classes, your alignment and ethos, 10 clans and 44 gods and cults who all want something from you. Usually your soul, sometimes just your corpse. That adds up to over 50,000 builds, and each one plays differently. A drow necromancer who prays to Lloth and an elven paladin who serves Varda live in two different games that happen to share a map. Occasionally they meet. One of them doesn't leave.
The loot is honest and fully balanced -- from common to epic and legendary. Every random drop, quest reward and crafted piece sits on one power scale, so a good sword is good for a reason, not because someone forgot to fix it in 2003. Forge your own blades, work wood, cut gems and ink tattoos into willing skin. Mine the ore yourself, or pay someone who did and try not to ask how they got it.
You will not run out of things to do. The questmasters hand out fresh personal quests forever, and 56 hand-built area quests wait for those who actually read room descriptions. The mobs come in tiers, and the tough ones fight back. They call their friends, drink their potions, chase you across the zone and cast real spells at your face from a distance. The boss in the next room has read the same guide you did.
Survive your first life, remort into a new one, keep your hero gear, and earn your way into one of ten clans. Most have skills nobody else gets, and all of them have enemies. That is when the politics start, and the politics here are mostly stabbing.
Thera does not care if you live. It just likes to watch. Dying is part of the tutorial.
